GLOVER: Ford must come clean about Ontario Place redevelopment’s sewage risk to Lake Ontario

TORONTO — MPP Chris Glover (Spadina—Fort York) is calling out the Ford government for misleading Ontarians after it falsely claimed that sewage overflow construction is “unrelated” to construction at Ontario Place.

The government’s own Request for Qualifications (RFQ) specifically states that they are seeking a contractor to modify the combined sewer overflow.

“Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming (MTCG) have issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for construction management services to re-align and modify the combined sewer overflow at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard West for the Ontario Place redevelopment project,” said Glover.

In addition to the RFQ, Infrastructure Ontario informed City of Toronto staff that construction began on their ‘interim CSO solution’ in the West Channel on December 1st.

“The government’s own documents show that the Ford government is going to dump raw sewage inside the breakwater without assessing the health or environmental risk for Ontarians. Ford is already giving Therme a $2.2 taxpayer dollar subsidy and the virtually free 95-year lease on public parkland. Now they’re dumping raw sewage on our waterfront for this megaspa that no one wants.”
