GLOVER: Ford’s sweetheart deal with Therme brings more bad news for Ontarians

QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP MPP Chris Glover (Spadina—Fort York) is calling on Doug Ford to come clean about his deal with Therme, and explain the pattern of preferential treatment around the company's luxury megaspa.

While the Ford government neglected to secure any guarantees from Therme for Ontarians, they promised to build the company a new parking garage.

“Doug Ford's sweetheart deal keeps getting sweeter for Therme, and worse for Ontarians,” said Glover. “Offering to build this foreign-owned company a parking garage worth hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars — following a process that the Auditor General called unfair — reeks of preferential treatment.

“Ford is leaving the people of Ontario stuck with the $2.2 billion tab for his private luxury megaspa. They’ve been left with all the risk on this project, while Therme rakes in the profits with no strings attached.

“Ontarians never agreed to pay $400 per household for a vanity project that no one asked for. While the rest of the country is focused on building more homes and a stronger economy, Doug Ford is only focused on building a luxury spa for his insiders.”
