Marit Stiles brings All in for Ontario tour to Sault Ste. Marie, calls to reinstate funding for Sault Area Hospital

SAULT STE. MARIE - Marit Stiles continued her All in for Ontario summer tour in Sault Ste. Marie, where she met with steelworkers, health care workers, and community members about the impact of Ford’s cuts and Trump’s tariffs:

"The Soo is an economic force in the North, with strong steel and forestry sectors, and after meeting with workers and families here, one thing is obvious: the Ford Government needs to stop treating the Soo like an afterthought,” said Stiles.

“Last year, we saw 10,000 people in the Soo lose primary care, and now we are seeing funding cuts at the Sault Area Hospital. This means longer wait times, reduced emergency capacity, and added pressure on surrounding communities.

“But rather than working to invest in our public health care, the Ford Government is on summer break after years of cuts. The people of Northern Ontario don’t get a break from losing their jobs. They don’t get a break from waiting for health care.”

“Starving Soo’s health care system of resources will have ripple effects on our economy. That’s why I am calling on Ford to reinstate hospital funding for Sault Area Hospital and connect the thousands who have lost primary care to family doctors or nurse practitioners.”

Stiles was joined by local leaders, steelworkers, and health care advocates who echoed the calls for reliable health care in Soo.
