QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam (Toronto Centre) is calling on the Ford government to permanently recognize the month of April as Nepali Heritage Month in Ontario.
Last week, alongside MPPs Alexa Gilmour (Parkdale—High Park) and Lise Vaugeois (Thunder Bay—Superior North), MPP Wong-Tam tabled Bill 111, Nepali Heritage Month Act, 2026.
“Recognizing the Nepali community is especially meaningful to me,” said Wong-Tam. “In the early 2010s, Toronto Centre was home to one of the highest concentrations of Nepali residents in Canada. During my time as a former city councillor, I had the privilege of building strong relationships within the community. Presenting this bill nearly 15 years later truly feels like a full-circle moment.
“Since 1965, Canada has become home to tens of thousands of people of Nepali origin and ancestry, with the highest concentration in Ontario. Nepali Heritage Month will be a time to honour the heritage, achievements, and contributions of Nepali Ontarians, and to inspire future generations by recognizing their ongoing role in building vibrant, diverse, and inclusive communities across our province.”
We're so happy to have you on the team. We'll be in touch soon.
