SATTLER: Ford plays the blame game with post-secondary education desperate for funding

QUEEN’S PARK — While the Ford government continues to point the finger at their federal counterparts for the difficulties facing the province’s post-secondary institutions, Ontario’s New Democrats are reminding the Conservatives that this is a crisis of their own making.

Shadow Minister for Colleges and Universities Peggy Sattler (London West) says it’s time for Premier Doug Ford to step up, instead of playing the blame game.

“Doug Ford’s underfunding of Ontario’s colleges and universities has created this mess,” said Sattler. “If the Premier is trying to find the person who left this sector with no choice but to rely on international student tuition, he should look in the mirror.”

“Ontario has the lowest per-student college and university funding in the country, and despite numerous opportunities to change this, Ford would rather play politics with our province’s future.

“The Conservatives need to do more. Ford needs to increase resources and support for Ontario’s post-secondary institutions, and pull our education system out of the hole he’s put it in.”
