Stiles calls out Ford’s pattern of preferential treatment following Star investigation into Kinross deal

QUEEN’S PARK – Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition, is calling out the Ford government following a damning investigation from the Toronto Star that revealed internal documents showing a Ford government staffer potentially breaking ethics rules and giving preferential treatment to a private company:

“This kind of shady backroom deal is exactly why the Premier is losing the people’s trust,” said Stiles. “Again and again, we see that there are one set of rules for the Premier’s friends and another set of rules for the rest of us.”

“The Premier’s fingerprints are all over this deal. The investigation suggests that the Ford government willingly shut Grassy Narrows First Nation out of consultations and conversations to favour Kinross. Families and residents in Grassy Narrows, who continue to suffer from mercury poisoning, are paying the price for the Premier’s backroom deals.”
